I don’t know what it is with some of the ‘chatroom roleplayers’, and others who ‘play’ at Gor, or dishonestly ‘pretend’ to be Gorean, but for some reason, this most basic of all the slave ‘positions’ seems to cause all kinds of problems for them, despite there being numerous, clearly defined quotes in the books that describe how, in standard ‘nadu’, the slaves hands are to be placed palms down on the thighs.
“The girl struggled to nadu, kneeling back on her heels, her head up, her back straight, the palms of her hands down on her thighs.” Chapter 22, Swordsmen of Gor.
“In nadu, as the back is straight, the shoulders are back, and this accentuates the delights of the bosom. The widening of the knees suggests the vulnerability of the slave and displays the softness of the open, exposed thighs. The placement of the palms down on the thighs, apart and down, to the sides, suggests that they will be held as they are, and thus are not permitted to fend or thwart a caress.” Chapter 22, Swordsmen of Gor.
“Nadu,” whispered the taverner, and the girl went to position, back on heels, knees wide, back straight, the palms of her hands down on her thighs.” Chapter 1, Mariners of Gor.
“Position!” Instantly, reflexively, Iole and Alcinoe, frightened, knelt, back on their heels, knees spread, back straight, head up, looking ahead, neither to the left or the right, the palms of their hands down, firmly, on their thighs.” Chapter 20, Mariners of Gor.
“She was before me, in position, kneeling, back on her heels, her back straight, her head up, looking ahead, the palms of her hands down on her thighs, her knees spread, this making clear the nature of her bondage.” Chapter 37, Mariners of Gor.
The only time that a girl kneels palms up in ‘nadu’ is when she is trying to silently beg for something. If her pleas are dismissed, the slave will return to ‘default’ ‘nadu’, ie, palms again down on her thighs.
“She knelt in the position of the Pleasure Slave but her hands on her thighs had unconsciously, pleadingly, turned their palms to me, and she no longer knelt quite back on her heels. It was as though she begged to be allowed to lift and open her arms and rise and come to my arms. But as I looked upon her sternly she turned her palms again to her thighs, knelt back on her heels and dropped her head……” Chapter 28, Priest Kings of Gor.
“There are a variety of ways in which a pleasure slave may kneel, but the most common is back on her heels, knees spread, back straight, head up, the palms of her hands down, on her thighs.
Sometimes, when her needs are muchly upon her, she may kneel muchly like that, save that her head may be lowered humbly, daring not to meet the eyes of the master, and the backs of the hands, not the palms of her hands, may be down on her thighs, which exposes the delicate palms of the hands to the master, a lovely hint of hope and petition.” Chapter 3, Swordsmen of Gor.
“Sometimes a slave in nadu begs, turning her hands about, placing the backs of the hands on the thighs, this exposing the soft, delicate, sensitive palms of her hands to the master. It is a way of supplicating a caress.” Chapter 1, Mariners of Gor.
It should be remembered (for those who understand Gor) that when a slave is ‘in position’, she is expected to remain silent. This is why a slave, in order to occaisionally attract the attention of a Master, may turn her hands ‘palms up’.
This should NOT be thought of as a regular, or common occurence – it isn’t. It should be done only very rarely – which is why it should NOT be viewed as some kind of secondary, or widely used ‘default’ position.
Slaves are expected to be obedient, not constantly attempting to avoid their restrictions, or lessen their owners control over them. Gor is a man’s world.
I have never come across anyone who genuinely lives Gorean, and who has truly read the books that believes ‘nadu’ should be performed ‘palms up’ as some form of regularly used ‘nadu’. Because it isn’t.
To believe otherwise, or to infer that it is only dilutes the boundaries of Gorean living, as well as confusing those new to Gor.
Well wishes,
Asmodeus.

Unfortunately, in the mix of online interactions we are forced to look at criminals, liars, and thieves. Perhaps that is why so many of us simply live far from it.
So nice to see you A.
Greetings Nyre,
This is a sad fact. My feelings are similar to your own regarding requirements for those who ‘claim’ to live Gorean. I am copying a comment I came across recently that certainly sums up MY beliefs regarding *unacceptable* behaviour:
‘If you can not control yourself you have no right to control others. If you habitually use drugs or alcohol – i.e. you’re an addict – you are not in control of yourself and you have no right to control others.
If your earnings are exceeded by your outgoings – i.e. you’re technically bankrupt – you can not control your spending and you have no right to control others.
If you are a thief, a liar, a fraudster, a rapist, an abuser, a paedophile – i.e. you have no moral compass nor social responsibility – then you can not control your actions and you have no right to control others.’
Sound requirements, for those who claim to be ‘Free’.
I wish you well,
Asmodeus.
AS we have both discovered these type of people are Emotional Predators who spend their time preying on healthy people. They admit they use emotional currency to get what they want out of us all.
Things like:
Lovebombing, BreadCrumbing, Ghosting, Gas Lighting, Stalking, Sociopath stalking, Cyber stalking and bullying are their trademarks.
Yep! Been there, got the tee shirt.
Happily, these people CAN be beaten IF you are willing to first accept that the individual concerned actually is ‘personality disordered’. Many are far too weak to do this – they ‘excuse’ indefensible behaviour, and claim the predator has simply made a ‘mistake’, or is ‘misunderstood’. This helps salve THEIR conscience. It does not stop the predator, it simply ‘enables’ them.
The truly frightening thing is, for every ‘predator’, there are several to MANY ‘enablers’. They can be identified as the ones to post about how ‘mistakes’ should be forgiven, or posts that actually criticise those who speak out about predators/abusers – saying things should be left in the past, or ‘put to rest’, or ‘we are not taking sides’ etc. They well know about the lies, the fakery, and the abuses – they are simply too weak, or too lonely to risk ‘upsetting’ the predator. That, or they WELL KNOW what the predator is capable of, and are too weak and frightened to speak out.
My advice to anyone, Gorean OR mainstream BDSM would be to avoid ALL of these individuals – they are ALL equally dangerous.
